Happy Earth Day!

Here's a tip of the hat to Atlantic Canadian fibre artists who use their creativity and frugalness to help their environment! There are few as inventive as a stitcher to recycle material and supplies. From our quilting foremothers and those who could hook real beauty from simple string and burlap, to today's cutting edge designers, we salute everyone who does their part. Even the trail ends are not wasted. Scrap yarn and fabric help stuff pillows and toys, or are shared with birds as nest building material.

 Congratulations to all green-minded stitchers, and Happy Spring!  

Happy Birthday, Needlework New Brunswick!

Happy Birthday, Needlework New Brunswick! Here's a glass raised to the wonderful stitchers, knitters, weavers, spinners and fibre fans all who make up New Brunswick's fibre community. Your creativity, talent and enthusiasm is amazing!

What started out as a few shared notes on the Web four years ago, has grown into a fun and inspiring network. Together, we share ideas, resources and a common thread of community. However we choose to express our creativity, it's a pleasure to see how simple fibres are combined to build something wonderful.

To mark this special occasion, Needlework New Brunswick has launched its first Supplies and Services directory. Dedicated to the first lady of New Brunswick weaving, Enid Inch, it brings together the places and people where you can obtain materials for your next project. You can download your copy from the NNB site. Enid's passing was a great loss to our community and New Brunswick in general, and she will be sorely missed. Thank you for all you have done for our province, Enid, and we hope this directory serves as a small token of our respect and admiration.

In a second tribute to New Brunswick history and to encourage more people to pick up the needle, NNB has launched two new prizes this year. Partnering with the 110-year-old Kings County Agricultural Fair in Sussex, we are offering the Golden Needle prize and the General Excellence Prize. The first is for the person who earns the highest overall rankings for fibre arts in the August 19-21 event. The second goes to the person who enters the most different types of needlework. Anyone can enter Canada's oldest continuous fair. Class lists are available at the Celebrate Sussex web site, www.celebratesussex.com

This snowy winter has encouraged alot of us to stay home and stitch. But now that the ground is starting to reappear, it's time to hit the road again. You'll find a new resource to help you plan your spring and summer road trips with the newly created Needlework New Brunswick map. Fibre art stores, galleries and studios, (not to mention Frenchy's outlets!) are all included. You'll find the link to this Google reference on the NNB web site. Have a look, top up the gas tank and happy traveling!

Needlework Nw Brunswick continues to grow as it serves our provincial fibre arts community. We are developing in exciting ways as we pay tribute to those who have created in the past while paving the way for those stitching today.

This website is meant to keep you up to date on fibre arts events and trends here in New Brunswick and elsewhere. It is also a resource of material to help you research projects and people who enjoy fibre arts, as well.
